New Orleans 12-Year-Old Venezuelan Food Truck Announces New Physical Restaurant

New Orleans, Louisiana – La Cocinita, a renowned New Orleans food truck famous for its arepas, tacos, and “burri-tacos,” is set to open its first restaurant in Uptown. This Venezuelan food truck, a 12-year venture by Benoit and Rachel Angulo, will establish its new location at 4920 Prytania Street in the spring of 2024.

The menu, mostly gluten-free, will feature a wider selection of arepas and numerous vegan options. The establishment will offer counter-service and include a full bar with South American wines, beers, margaritas, mojitos, other tropical cocktails, and a selection of rum and tequila.

A rich history from Caracas to Chicago

The opening of this restaurant marks a significant milestone for the Angulos, who first met at Commander’s Palace. Benoit hails from Caracas, Venezuela, and Rachel from Chicago. They have also run a La Cocinita food truck in Evanston, Illinois, and opened a restaurant there in 2016. Splitting their time between Wilmette, Illinois, and New Orleans, they will partner with Joseph Sturtz, a ten-year veteran of the company, now co-owner, of the Uptown restaurant.
